The bullets wrote our past

It was June 23rd 2016, one day before my birthday, and I had just arrived from my trip to Spain. I must admit, and already expecting some criticism that I am an admirer of president Santos’ work; therefore, I follow his footsteps including his Facebook page.   On June 23rd, I read his phrase: “ The bullets wrote our past, the education will write our future”.  It is a short phrase, but it impacted me very much, and I posted it on my own Facebook even though I only got three “likes”.  Only three of my hundreds of  Colombian friends shared my happiness about reaching that historical moment, then I thought that something must be failing in the peace process’  communication.

Since I remember, every day of my life, I watched on the news how those bullets destroyed our people.  Some people say: “that is not true”, “there is something behind it, they want to sell the country”.  I wonder: Why do my people doubt? I did not doubt not even a second about the truth of the  agreement reached on June 23rd.  I saw president Santos shaking hands with Rodrigo Londoño Echeverri or  “Timochenco” in the presence of the Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon and the rest of the world leaders who were present that day.  I do understand the negative effects of the war, but there are different ways to analyze and understand them by isolating negativity.  I want to do something about it, that is why I am going to summarize the six points of the agreement.

That is why I am trying to spread these words of peace and of a reality which we all can be part of, and that we are able to properly understand.  We have one month before the great October 2nd to understand these six points and to vote Yes!  Peace will not be the absence of conflict, but currently, it means our first opportunity to avoid  further deaths of thousands of  Colombians.
